I have not written a blog post in quite some time and I think it is because I am putting too much thought into what I should say or how I should say it. I have decided that I am just going to write about things that I feel are important in the now. Today starts the first in what I hope will be a series of posts about kindness.
The last year has been tumultuous for everyone. I, myself, have gotten caught up in so many big conversations and I want to be able to turn my focus to something that seems smaller, easier. Kindness has many different interpretations. I have decided that the first part of our kindness journey will focus on Compassion, specifically Self-Compassion. I go back to the advice that you get on an airplane, put on your oxygen mask before you help others. It is ok to focus on your own self first because if we love ourselves then hopefully it will be easier to love each other.
Nuanprang Snitbhan, PsyD created Kindess Cards for Kids - 52 Ways to Make Every Day a Little Better, which I will be using throughout this journey and is available in the store and online. This week we are going to focus on the first card that I pulled out from the Compassion section, Hello, Self! The exercise is to "write a compliment to yourself and put it someplace you'll see." Whether you are a rockstar caregiver, brilliant puzzle builder, or you simply got out of bed this morning, you deserve to be recognized for carrying on in this crazy world. Please feel free to share how you are complimenting yourself and practicing Self Compassion.
